In a commanding performance to kick off the 2027 season, the Kansas City Chiefs trounced the Denver Broncos with a final score of 61-10. With both teams looking to set the tone for the year, the Chiefs showcased their dominance, leaving no doubt about their intentions in the AFC West. Patrick Mahomes was electric, throwing for an astounding 460 yards and an incredible eight touchdowns, connecting with receiver Jeff Caldwell for a staggering 228 yards. The Chiefs' offense was relentless, as they exploited the Broncos' defense at every opportunity, establishing a rhythm that Denver simply couldn't match. Meanwhile, Bo Nix led the Broncos on the ground with just 32 rushing yards, struggling to find any offensive momentum. Defensively, the Chiefs were effective in limiting the Broncos' attack, highlighted by George Karlaftis, who recorded a sack, and Jeffrey Bassa, who intercepted a pass. The turning point came early in the second quarter when Mahomes tossed his fourth touchdown, pushing Kansas City’s lead to 28-3 and effectively putting the game out of reach. The Chiefs' defensive pressure and opportunistic play in the secondary were critical in stifling any hopes of a Denver comeback.
