In a thrilling season opener, the Carolina Panthers narrowly defeated the Houston Texans 30-27 in a tightly contested matchup. Both teams aimed to kick off the 2027 season with momentum, but it was the Panthers who ultimately held off the Texans' late-game surge. C.J. Stroud shined for the Texans, throwing for 339 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his ability to lead the offense effectively. Nico Collins emerged as his top target, racking up an impressive 146 receiving yards, while Jonathon Brooks contributed a solid ground game for the Panthers with 73 rushing yards to keep the defense honest. Defensively, the game’s turning point came when Jaycee Horn intercepted a crucial pass in the fourth quarter, stifling a Texans drive and maintaining the Panthers' lead. Despite Azeez Al-Shaair's strong performance with 12 total tackles and Kayden McDonald's lone sack, the Texans could not capitalize on their defensive efforts to secure a win. In the end, it was Carolina's ability to make key plays on both sides of the ball that sealed their victory.
