In a tightly contested season opener, the Washington Commanders narrowly defeated the New York Jets 20-17. Both teams were eager to start the 2027 season with a win, but it was Washington that ultimately came out on top, showcasing their resilience in a hard-fought battle. Kyler Murray had a standout performance for the Jets, finishing the game with 271 passing yards and one touchdown. However, it was Jonathan Taylor who truly shone, racking up 139 rushing yards and adding 99 receiving yards to his impressive tally. His versatility kept the Commanders' defense on their toes, but it wasn't enough to secure the victory. Defensively, the Commanders made critical plays that shifted the momentum of the game. Trey Amos led the charge with five total tackles, while Odafe Oweh contributed with a sack that helped apply pressure on Murray. The turning point came when Nick Cross intercepted two passes, stifling the Jets’ late-game drive and sealing the win for Washington.
