In a high-stakes season opener, the Houston Texans held off the Tennessee Titans with a final score of 31-17. Both teams were eager to make a statement as they kicked off the 2028 season, but it was the Texans who established early dominance at home. C.J. Stroud showcased his prowess under center, throwing for two touchdowns while Bo Nix added a solid 87 passing yards to the Texans' offensive effort. On the ground, Mark Fletcher Jr. was a standout for the Titans, racking up an impressive 194 rushing yards, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with Houston’s aerial attack. Dont'e Thornton Jr. also contributed significantly, leading all receivers with 72 yards. Defensively, the Texans stepped up when it mattered most, with Azeez Al-Shaair leading the team with five total tackles and Danielle Hunter securing a crucial interception. The turning point came late in the second quarter when Hunter’s pick halted a promising Titans drive, allowing the Texans to maintain momentum and ultimately secure the victory. Ahmad Moten Sr. recorded the sole sack for Tennessee, but it was Houston's defense that proved to be the decisive factor in the win.
