In a decisive Week 1 matchup, the San Antonio Redwoods topped the Atlanta Falcons 27-16, setting the tone for the 2027 season. With both teams looking to establish their identities early, the Redwoods came out strong, showcasing their offensive prowess while the Falcons struggled to keep pace. Chris Johnson Jr. led the charge for San Antonio, rushing for 109 yards and consistently finding openings in the Falcons' defense. Atlanta's Taylen Green had a solid performance, throwing for 194 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Redwoods' balanced attack. While Ted Hurst III contributed significantly with 68 receiving yards, the Falcons' offense was unable to maintain momentum. Defensively, the Redwoods made critical plays, including a sack from Christen Miller that disrupted Atlanta's rhythm. The game turned in the second quarter when San Antonio's defense held firm on a crucial fourth down, allowing their offense to capitalize and extend their lead. With Trevon Diggs making an interception for the Falcons, the defense fought hard, but it ultimately could not overcome the Redwoods' effective game plan.
