In a commanding performance, the Washington Commanders topped the Orlando Hellcats 45-22 in Week 2 of the 2027 season. This victory solidifies the Commanders' early dominance in the league, while the Hellcats will need to regroup after a tough road loss. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza was the standout for Washington, throwing for four touchdowns and leading his team to a decisive win. Ashton Jeanty contributed on the ground with 76 rushing yards, while Malik Nabers of the Hellcats showcased his skills with 117 receiving yards, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Commanders' explosive offense. Defensively, Washington’s Nakobe Dean led the charge with eight total tackles, while Odafe Oweh recorded 1.5 sacks, putting pressure on the Hellcats’ quarterback throughout the game. The turning point came in the second quarter when Mendoza threw two quick touchdown passes, pushing the Commanders ahead and setting the tone for the rest of the contest. Darius Rush's interception late in the game sealed the deal, confirming Washington's status as a formidable contender this season.
