In a thrilling season opener, the Washington Commanders topped the Miami Dolphins 35-21, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting 2031 campaign. With both teams looking to establish an early foothold in the league, the Commanders emerged victorious behind a commanding performance. Tyler Shough led the charge for Washington, throwing for an impressive 411 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his precision and poise in the pocket. Meanwhile, Mike Washington Jr. added a powerful ground game with 118 rushing yards, effectively complementing Shough's aerial assault. On the other side, Jeremiah Smith of the Dolphins shined with 160 receiving yards, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Commanders' offensive onslaught. Defensively, the Commanders made crucial plays that shifted the momentum in their favor. Caesar Agasiva's two interceptions proved to be game-changers, disrupting Miami's rhythm and providing Washington with vital scoring opportunities. The turning point came late in the second quarter when Agasiva's second pick set up a quick touchdown, allowing the Commanders to take control and ultimately secure the win.
