In a decisive Week 1 matchup of the 2026 season, the Arizona Cardinals topped the Los Angeles Chargers with a final score of 26-14. This victory not only sets a positive tone for the Cardinals’ season but also underscores their aspirations for a playoff run after a challenging previous year. Jacoby Brissett led the charge for Arizona, throwing for 277 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his command of the offense. He connected effectively with tight end Trey McBride, who racked up 95 receiving yards to keep the chains moving. Tyler Allgeier contributed on the ground, adding 61 rushing yards, further solidifying the Cardinals' balanced attack. Defensively, Arizona made key plays that shifted momentum, highlighted by Jordan Burch's sack and Andrew Wingard's interception. The turning point came late in the second quarter when Wingard's pick halted a potential Chargers scoring drive, allowing the Cardinals to maintain their lead and control the pace of the game. With Derwin James Jr. leading the Chargers’ defense with seven total tackles, it wasn't enough to counteract Arizona's overall efficiency.
