In a thrilling season opener, the Denver Broncos narrowly defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-29, marking a dramatic start to the 2026 season. Both teams showcased their offensive firepower, but it was the Broncos who ultimately prevailed in a tightly contested matchup. Patrick Mahomes delivered a stellar performance for the Chiefs, throwing for 308 yards and four touchdowns, but it was Courtland Sutton of the Broncos who stole the show with an impressive 171 receiving yards. The Broncos capitalized on their aerial attack, with key completions at crucial moments, allowing them to maintain the lead throughout the game. Defensively, the Broncos were bolstered by Tycen Anderson's interception, which proved pivotal in stalling a Chiefs drive. Although Chris Jones was a standout for Kansas City with two sacks and three total tackles, the lack of consistent defensive stops ultimately allowed Denver to hold off the Chiefs' late-game surge and secure the victory. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Anderson's pick set up a crucial score that sealed the win for the Broncos.
