In a commanding performance, the Seattle Seahawks topped the New England Patriots 42-17 in their season opener, setting a strong tone for the 2026 season. Seattle's explosive offense proved too much for New England, as they showcased their playmaking ability right from the start. Sam Darnold was the star of the night, throwing for four touchdowns and demonstrating pinpoint accuracy throughout the game. Jaxon Smith-Njigba was his favorite target, racking up an impressive 109 receiving yards, while TreVeyon Henderson led the Patriots' ground game with 75 rushing yards. Despite a solid effort from Drake Maye, who passed for 180 yards, New England struggled to keep pace with Seattle's offensive firepower. Defensively, the Seahawks made their mark with Julian Love's two interceptions, which were pivotal in shifting momentum. Devon Witherspoon's four tackles helped contain the Patriots' attempts to rally, and Seattle's defense consistently pressured Maye, forcing him into tough throws. The turning point came in the second quarter when Love's first interception led to a quick touchdown, giving Seattle a lead they would not relinquish.
