In a thrilling opener for the 2026 season, the Los Angeles Rams narrowly defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 27-21. With both teams looking to set the tone for the year, the Rams emerged victorious in a closely contested battle that showcased their offensive firepower and resilience. Taylen Green led the Rams with a steady performance, throwing for a touchdown while managing the game effectively. The real star on the ground was Trey Benson, who rushed for 123 yards, consistently breaking through the 49ers' defense and setting up key scoring opportunities. Brock Purdy put up solid numbers for San Francisco with 180 passing yards, but it was Christian Kirk's 84 receiving yards that kept the 49ers' offense competitive. Defensively, the Rams held strong when it mattered most, limiting the 49ers to just two touchdowns in the second half. The game's turning point came in the final minutes when the Rams' defense stiffened, thwarting a crucial San Francisco drive that could have tied the game. Despite a standout performance from Nick Bosa, who recorded 2.5 sacks, it was the Rams' ability to make key stops that ultimately sealed their victory.
