In a decisive matchup that could shape playoff positioning, the Kansas City Chiefs topped the Los Angeles Chargers 39-26 in Week 17 of the 2026 season. With both teams vying for momentum heading into the postseason, the Chiefs showcased their offensive firepower to secure a vital victory. Leading the charge for Kansas City was Patrick Mahomes, who threw for an impressive 313 yards and three touchdowns, further solidifying his status as one of the league's elite quarterbacks. He connected seamlessly with Jeff Caldwell, who racked up 116 receiving yards, while Kenneth Walker added a solid ground game with 67 rushing yards. The Chiefs' offensive performance was a well-rounded display that kept the Chargers' defense on its heels throughout the contest. Defensively, the Chargers struggled to contain the Chiefs' high-octane offense, despite standout performances from Derwin James Jr., who notched nine total tackles and one sack. The turning point came in the third quarter, when Mahomes orchestrated a 75-yard touchdown drive that extended Kansas City's lead to 30-20, putting the Chargers in a challenging position. While Los Angeles managed to make some defensive plays, including an interception by Donte Jackson, it wasn't enough to turn the tide against a dominant Chiefs team.
