In a commanding performance to kick off the 2026 season, the Detroit Lions defeated the New Orleans Saints 38-20. With both teams looking to establish their identity early in the season, the Lions showcased their offensive firepower and solidified their position as a contender in the NFC. Quarterback Jared Goff was the star of the show, throwing for an impressive 344 yards and three touchdowns, effectively leading the Lions' offense. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was his favorite target, racking up 168 receiving yards, while Jahmyr Gibbs contributed with 79 rushing yards, adding balance to the attack. Together, they created a dynamic offensive unit that consistently challenged the Saints' defense. Detroit's defense played a crucial role in the outcome, with Byron Murphy Jr. leading the team with seven total tackles and Derrick Moore contributing a sack to the effort. The turning point came midway through the second quarter when the Lions' defense stifled a Saints' drive, forcing a turnover that allowed Goff and the offense to extend their lead. This momentum shift proved pivotal, as the Lions maintained control for the remainder of the game.
