In a thrilling season opener, the New Orleans Purple Knights narrowly defeated the Bozeman Mustangs 24-21, setting the tone for an exciting 2026 campaign. Both teams showcased their potential, but it was the Knights who came out on top in this tightly contested matchup. Malik Willis was the standout performer for New Orleans, throwing for an impressive 351 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his arm strength and accuracy. Tyreek Hill added to the offensive fireworks with a phenomenal 166 receiving yards, consistently getting open and making big plays downfield. Meanwhile, Jaylen Warren led the way for Bozeman on the ground, rushing for 52 yards, but it wasn't enough to secure the victory. Defensively, the game was marked by a few key moments, with Rayshawn Jenkins sealing the win for the Knights with an interception. The Mustangs' Nick Herbig was a force on defense, registering 2.5 sacks, which kept the pressure on Willis throughout the game. However, it was Jenkins' timely pick that ultimately shifted momentum and allowed New Orleans to hold off Bozeman in the final minutes.
