In a thrilling Week 1 matchup of the 2026 season, the San Antonio Desperados topped the Corona Centennial with a final score of 35-21. Both teams entered the game looking to establish momentum early in the season, but it was the Desperados who came out on top, showcasing their offensive firepower. Fernando Mendoza was the standout performer for San Antonio, throwing for 277 yards and four touchdowns, demonstrating precision and poise in the pocket. His connection with receiver Jameson Williams proved crucial, as Williams racked up 129 receiving yards, consistently finding ways to get open and capitalize on Mendoza’s accuracy. Meanwhile, Jahmyr Gibbs of the Centennial was impressive on the ground, rushing for 177 yards, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Desperados' air assault. Defensively, the Desperados made key plays that shifted the momentum in their favor. Calais Campbell was a force on the line, recording 1.5 sacks, while Quay Walker sealed the game with a crucial interception that halted a Centennial drive in the second half. With this combination of offensive efficiency and timely defensive stops, San Antonio secured a strong start to their season.
