In a thrilling season opener, the Pittsburgh Steelers narrowly defeated the Atlanta Falcons 21-19, kicking off the 2026 campaign with a hard-fought victory. The stakes were high as both teams aimed to establish momentum early in the season, but it was the Steelers who ultimately held off a late surge from Atlanta. Drew Allar shined for Pittsburgh, throwing for three touchdowns and leading his team to a crucial victory. On the other side, Michael Penix Jr. had a solid outing with 212 passing yards, while Bijan Robinson contributed significantly on the ground with 85 rushing yards. Germie Bernard was a standout receiver for the Steelers, amassing 97 yards and providing key catches to keep the chains moving. Defensively, the Steelers made their mark with Jaquan Brisker leading the team with eight total tackles, and Payton Wilson registering 1.5 sacks to disrupt the Falcons' rhythm. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Divine Deablo intercepted a pass, momentarily shifting momentum back to Atlanta, but it ultimately wasn't enough to secure the win as Pittsburgh's defense held strong in the final minutes.
