The New Orleans Saints kicked off the 2026 season with a hard-fought 20-13 victory over the Detroit Lions. With both teams vying for an early edge in the competitive NFC, the Saints showcased their resilience and execution under pressure. Tyler Shough led the Saints' offense with an impressive 233 passing yards, connecting with Chris Olave for a standout performance that included 90 receiving yards. Travis Etienne Jr. contributed on the ground with 58 rushing yards, providing crucial support to the passing game. Despite Jared Goff's lone touchdown pass for the Lions, the offense struggled to keep pace with New Orleans' balanced attack. On the defensive side, the Lions' Jack Campbell was a force, racking up 11 total tackles, but it was the Saints' ability to limit big plays that proved pivotal in this matchup. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when the Saints' defense held strong, denying a late-game drive from the Lions and sealing the victory. With both teams displaying flashes of brilliance, the Saints' strategic plays and defensive stands ultimately secured their season-opening win.
