In a thrilling Week 4 matchup, the Minnesota Vikings topped the San Francisco 49ers with a final score of 54-35, solidifying their position as a contender this season. With both teams vying for playoff positioning early in the year, this victory could prove pivotal as the league heads deeper into the season. Brock Purdy led the charge for the 49ers, throwing for an impressive 354 yards and four touchdowns, showcasing his ability to move the ball downfield effectively. De'Zhaun Stribling was his favorite target, racking up 109 receiving yards and contributing to the 49ers' high-scoring effort. However, the Vikings' ground game was modest, with Jordan Mason leading the way with just 40 rushing yards, indicating a heavy reliance on the passing attack. The Vikings' defense played a crucial role in this contest, particularly with Josh Metellus securing two interceptions that shifted the momentum firmly in Minnesota's favor. Byron Murphy Jr. led the team with four total tackles, providing key stops throughout the game. The turning point came in the second quarter when Metellus’s second pick set up a short field for the Vikings, allowing them to extend their lead and ultimately secure the win.
