In a decisive Week 1 matchup of the 2026 season, the Detroit Lions topped the New Orleans Saints 22-7, kicking off the year with a strong performance. Both teams aimed for a solid start, but the Lions quickly established dominance on their home turf. Quarterback Jared Goff was the star of the show for Detroit, throwing for 147 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his ability to connect with his receivers. Amon-Ra St. Brown led the receiving corps with 103 yards, providing Goff with a reliable target throughout the game. Meanwhile, Travis Etienne Jr. of the Saints had a standout rushing performance, amassing 187 yards on the ground, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Lions' offensive firepower. Defensively, the Lions made crucial plays, with Emmanuel Forbes Jr. securing an interception that shifted momentum in the second half. Azeez Al-Shaair recorded four tackles, demonstrating solid run support to contain the Saints' rushing attack. The turning point came when the Lions capitalized on Forbes’ interception, converting it into a touchdown that extended their lead and ultimately sealed the victory.
