In a decisive Week 2 showdown, Starkville Mississippi State topped Tuscaloosa Alabama 24-7, showcasing their dominance early in the 2026 season. With this victory, Starkville solidifies its position as a contender, while Tuscaloosa faces questions on both sides of the ball. Leading the offensive charge for Starkville was quarterback Tyler Shough, who threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns, connecting frequently with standout receiver Barion Brown, who amassed an impressive 260 receiving yards. This explosive aerial attack proved too much for the Tuscaloosa defense to handle, allowing Starkville to control the game. Defensively, Starkville's performance was equally impressive, highlighted by Chase Young's two sacks and JT Woods' critical interception, which shifted the momentum in favor of Starkville. The turning point came in the second quarter when Woods' interception set up another touchdown, putting Tuscaloosa on their heels and paving the way for Starkville's commanding win.
