In a defensive showdown to kick off the 2027 season, the Washington Commanders topped the Atlanta Falcons with a final score of 20-10. Atlanta's Michael Penix Jr. led the Falcons' offense with 199 passing yards and one touchdown, showcasing his ability to move the ball through the air. Bijan Robinson made an impact on the ground, racking up 90 rushing yards, while Zachariah Branch emerged as a key target, notching 91 receiving yards. Despite their efforts, the Falcons struggled to find the end zone consistently. Defensively, the Commanders were formidable, with Nick Cross leading the charge with seven total tackles and an interception that shifted the momentum. Daron Payne added to the pressure with 1.5 sacks, disrupting Atlanta's offensive rhythm. The turning point came in the second half when Cross's interception set up a touchdown drive, allowing Washington to pull away and ultimately secure the win.
