In a decisive Week 7 matchup, the Carolina Panthers topped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 37-13, solidifying their playoff aspirations. With both teams vying for crucial wins, the Panthers showcased their dominance on both sides of the ball, leaving the Buccaneers struggling to keep pace throughout the game. Bryce Young led the Panthers' offense effectively, throwing for one touchdown while Chuba Hubbard spearheaded the ground game, rushing for 86 yards. Geno Smith of the Buccaneers managed to rack up 192 passing yards, but it was Chris Godwin Jr. who stood out on the receiving end with 104 yards, unable to translate it into a competitive performance. Carolina's defense played a pivotal role, with Bobby Okereke leading the charge with eight total tackles, while Jaelan Phillips registered two sacks, consistently pressuring Smith. The game's turning point came early in the second half when Mike Jackson's interception gave the Panthers excellent field position, allowing them to extend their lead and effectively seal the victory.
