In a strong opening to the 2027 season, the New Orleans Saints topped the Washington Commanders with a final score of 27-14. This victory sets a promising tone for the Saints as they aim to make a statement in the highly competitive NFC. Baker Mayfield was the standout performer for New Orleans, throwing for three touchdown passes and leading the charge offensively. Brian Robinson Jr. added crucial ground support with 76 rushing yards, while the Saints' passing game was bolstered by a solid performance across the board. For Washington, Bo Nix put up impressive numbers with 260 passing yards and Amon-Ra St. Brown leading the receiving corps with 81 yards. Defensively, the Saints made critical plays that shifted momentum in their favor, most notably Kamren Kinchens’ two interceptions which stifled Washington’s attempts at a comeback. Tyleik Williams added pressure with a key sack, while the Saints’ overall defensive performance helped them control the game despite the Commanders' offensive efforts. The turning point came late in the second quarter after Kinchens' second interception, which allowed New Orleans to score and take a commanding lead into halftime.
