In a dominating performance, the New Orleans Saints crushed the Detroit Lions 44-0 in Week 1 of the 2026 season. With both teams eager to make a strong statement early in the season, the Saints showcased their offensive prowess while the Lions struggled to find their rhythm. Leading the charge for New Orleans was quarterback Joe Burrow, who threw for an impressive 331 yards and six touchdowns, marking a spectacular start to the season. Zachariah Branch was a standout target, racking up 116 receiving yards, while Antonio Gibson contributed on the ground with 17 rushing yards. The Saints had their offense firing on all cylinders, leaving the Lions' defense reeling. On the defensive side, New Orleans made their mark with two sacks from Nnamdi Madubuike and a pair of interceptions from James Pierre, which helped stifle any attempts the Lions made to mount a comeback. The turning point came early in the second quarter when Burrow connected for a touchdown after a defensive takeaway, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. The Lions' inability to respond effectively on both sides of the ball ultimately sealed their fate in this lopsided affair.
