In a thrilling season opener, the Pittsburgh Steelers topped the Atlanta Falcons 35-18, marking a strong start to the 2026 campaign. With both teams looking to establish momentum early in the year, the Steelers showcased their offensive firepower and solid defensive play, setting the tone for the weeks to come. Drew Allar led the charge for Pittsburgh with a steady performance, throwing for one touchdown while managing the game effectively. However, it was Rico Dowdle who stole the spotlight on the ground, racking up an impressive 164 rushing yards, and DK Metcalf shined in the air with 169 receiving yards, proving to be a crucial target for Allar throughout the game. Atlanta's Michael Penix Jr. kept pace statistically with 277 passing yards but struggled to find the end zone. Defensively, the Steelers made their presence felt with standout performances, particularly from T.J. Watt, who recorded 1.5 sacks, and Jalen Ramsey, who secured an interception. The turning point in the game came early in the second half when Pittsburgh's defense stifled a promising Falcons drive, ultimately leading to a momentum-shifting touchdown that put the Steelers firmly in control. As the season progresses, both teams will look to build off this performance, but Pittsburgh's combination of offensive efficiency and defensive prowess has set a formidable standard.
