In a thrilling season opener, the Houston Texans narrowly defeated the New England Patriots 21-20 on the road. Both teams were eager to start the 2027 season on a high note, but it was the Texans who emerged victorious in a tightly contested battle. C.J. Stroud led the Texans' offense with a standout performance, throwing for 302 yards and connecting with his top target, Nico Collins, who racked up 101 receiving yards. Despite the loss, the Patriots’ Drake Maye showcased his talent with three touchdown passes, while TreVeyon Henderson provided a solid ground game with 92 rushing yards, keeping New England in contention until the final whistle. Defensively, the Texans' Will Anderson Jr. made a significant impact, recording 1.5 sacks that disrupted the Patriots' rhythm. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when a crucial interception by Craig Woodson of the Patriots gave them a chance to reclaim the lead, but ultimately, Houston's defense held strong to seal the victory.
