In a thrilling season opener, the Washington Commanders narrowly defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-31, in a game that set the tone for the 2026 season. Both teams showcased their offensive firepower, but it was the Commanders who managed to hold off a late Eagles surge to secure the victory. Jalen Hurts of the Eagles had a standout performance, throwing for 358 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his ability to move the ball effectively. Saquon Barkley added 77 rushing yards, providing a solid ground game to complement the aerial attack. However, it was Terry McLaurin of the Commanders who stole the spotlight with 138 receiving yards, making crucial catches that helped Washington maintain their lead. Defensively, the Eagles struggled to contain the Commanders' offensive onslaught, though Taylor Rapp led his team with eight total tackles, trying to keep the game within reach. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when a key interception by the Commanders shifted momentum back in their favor, allowing them to run down the clock and seal the victory. Jalen Carter also made his mark with a sack, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide for Philadelphia.
