In a thrilling Week 2 matchup of the 2026 season, the Dallas Cowboys narrowly defeated the Washington Commanders 23-21, solidifying their early claim in the NFC East. Both teams entered the game looking to establish momentum, but it was the Cowboys who ultimately held off a late surge from the Commanders. Dak Prescott led the charge for Dallas with a strong performance, racking up 242 passing yards and keeping the offense efficient throughout the game. Meanwhile, Washington's Jayden Daniels showcased his skills with three touchdown passes, though it ultimately wasn’t enough to secure the win. On the ground, Jacory Croskey-Merritt nearly hit the century mark with 96 rushing yards, providing a solid balance for Washington's offense. Defensively, the Commanders were led by Sonny Styles, who recorded nine total tackles, but it was the Cowboys' ability to contain Washington’s explosive plays that proved crucial. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Dallas managed to stop a potential game-winning drive, forcing a turnover on downs and sealing the victory. With this win, the Cowboys send a message to the league that they are a force to be reckoned with as the season unfolds.
