In a commanding season opener, the Philadelphia Eagles topped the Washington Commanders 34-17, showcasing their offensive prowess while establishing an early lead in the 2026 season. With both teams eager to kick off the new year on a high note, the Eagles made a statement against their division rivals. Jalen Hurts led the way for Philadelphia, throwing for 208 yards, while Saquon Barkley shined in the backfield with 113 rushing yards, effectively controlling the ground game. DeVonta Smith was a standout in the passing game, matching Barkley's production with 113 receiving yards, making key catches that kept drives alive. Jayden Daniels of the Commanders managed to keep pace with two touchdown passes, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Eagles' offensive firepower. On the defensive side, Nolan Smith Jr. provided a crucial sack that helped stifle Washington’s momentum at key moments. Trey Amos was a standout performer for the Commanders with 11 total tackles, but the Eagles' defense, combined with their offensive efficiency, ultimately proved too much to handle. The turning point came when Philadelphia scored back-to-back touchdowns in the second quarter, creating a gap that Washington struggled to close throughout the game.
