In a defensive slugfest to kick off the 2026 season, the Minnesota Vikings narrowly defeated the Green Bay Packers, 2-0, in a game that was anything but conventional. The win gives the Vikings an early edge in the NFC North, while the Packers leave with questions on offense. Kyler Murray led Minnesota with 142 passing yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his ability to make crucial plays despite the low-scoring affair. Justin Jefferson was his primary target, hauling in 72 yards through the air. On the ground, Demond Claiborne contributed with 47 rushing yards, helping the Vikings control the clock and maintain field position. Defensively, the Vikings were relentless, with Andrew Van Ginkel recording a sack and Josh Metellus snagging a key interception. The game’s turning point was a safety that proved to be the only score, underscoring a dominant defensive effort. Edgerrin Cooper's four tackles for the Packers were not enough to shift the momentum, as Minnesota’s defense held firm throughout the contest.
