In a thrilling Week 1 matchup, the Philadelphia Eagles topped the Washington Commanders 35-23, kicking off their 2026 season with a strong showing. Both teams entered the game looking to make an early statement, but it was the Eagles who emerged victorious, showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive prowess. J.J. McCarthy led the Commanders' passing attack with 293 yards and one touchdown, displaying poise under pressure. However, it was Dylan Sampson of the Eagles who stole the spotlight on the ground, racking up an impressive 147 rushing yards, while Xavier Legette contributed for Washington with 103 receiving yards. The Eagles' balanced offense proved to be too much for the Commanders to handle. Defensively, the Eagles made their mark with Minkah Fitzpatrick leading the charge with five total tackles. Jared Verse was a force on the front line, notching 2.5 sacks, while Ruben Hyppolite II delivered a game-changing performance with three interceptions. The turning point came in the second half when Hyppolite's third pick set up a crucial touchdown, solidifying Philadelphia's lead and ultimately sealing the victory.
