In a tightly contested Week 1 matchup, the Los Angeles Chargers narrowly defeated the Arizona Cardinals 26-23, kicking off the 2026 season on a high note. Both teams fought hard, but the Chargers' ability to capitalize on key moments secured their victory. Justin Herbert led the Chargers' offense with a solid performance, throwing for 220 yards. Omarion Hampton contributed significantly on the ground with 81 rushing yards, while the Cardinals struggled to contain the Chargers' offensive rhythm. For Arizona, Jacoby Brissett tossed a single touchdown pass, but it was Marvin Harrison Jr. who stole the spotlight, racking up 104 receiving yards. Defensively, the Chargers made critical plays that tilted the game in their favor, notably with an interception from Daiyan Henley that halted a promising Cardinals drive. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when the Chargers managed to hold off a late surge from Arizona, showcasing their resilience in the face of pressure. Despite Garrett Williams' seven tackles and Josh Sweat's sack for the Cardinals, it wasn't enough to overcome the Chargers' defensive effort when it mattered most.
