In a tightly contested matchup, the San Francisco 49ers narrowly defeated the New York Giants 16-14 in Week 13 of the 2026 season, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Both teams entered the game with significant stakes, as every win is crucial as the season winds down. Sam Darnold led the charge for the 49ers with a solid performance, throwing for 226 yards and effectively managing the game. TreVeyon Henderson provided a strong ground game, racking up 87 rushing yards, which helped San Francisco control the tempo. For the Giants, Jared Goff's lone touchdown pass kept them in the hunt, but it wasn't enough to secure the victory. Defensively, Kayvon Thibodeaux made a significant impact for the 49ers, recording two sacks that disrupted the Giants' offensive rhythm. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Thibodeaux's pressure led to a pivotal turnover on downs, allowing San Francisco to maintain their slim lead and ultimately seal the win. Nick Bolton was a standout for New York with eight total tackles, but it wasn't enough to overcome the defensive stand from the 49ers.
