In a thrilling season opener, the Detroit Lions narrowly defeated the Arizona Cardinals with a final score of 29-27. Both teams were eager to make a statement in Week 1 of the 2027 season, but it was the Lions who emerged victorious in a closely contested battle. Jared Goff led the Lions' offensive charge, throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his ability to manage the game effectively. On the ground, the Lions struggled to find their rhythm, but the Cardinals' Jeremiyah Love made a solid impact with 92 rushing yards, keeping the game competitive. Michael Wilson was the standout receiver for Arizona, finishing with 59 yards, but ultimately, it was Goff's timely connections that made the difference for Detroit. Defensively, D.J. Reed was the star for the Lions, securing two crucial interceptions that shifted momentum in favor of Detroit. Despite a strong showing from Cardinals linebacker Garrett Williams, who recorded nine total tackles, the turning point came when Reed picked off a pass late in the fourth quarter, setting up the game-winning drive for the Lions. The defensive efforts from both squads were pivotal, but it was Detroit's ability to capitalize on turnovers that sealed the victory.
