The Los Angeles Chargers kicked off the 2027 season with a commanding 36-21 victory over the Washington Commanders. With both teams eager to establish momentum early in the year, the Chargers' performance proved decisive as they took control of the game from the outset. Justin Herbert led the Chargers' offense with an impressive three touchdown passes, showcasing his ability to connect with his receivers in critical moments. Meanwhile, Omarion Hampton contributed significantly on the ground, racking up 84 rushing yards. For the Commanders, Michael Penix Jr. threw for 274 yards and kept his team competitive, but it was Antonio Williams who shone brightest with a jaw-dropping 154 receiving yards. On the defensive side, the Chargers made key plays that impacted the game's flow, with Tuli Tuipulotu recording a crucial sack and Daiyan Henley grabbing an interception. The turning point came late in the third quarter when Henley's interception thwarted a potential scoring drive for Washington, allowing Los Angeles to extend their lead and ultimately secure the win. Amik Robertson's ten total tackles for the Commanders highlighted their effort, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Chargers' offensive firepower.
