In a tightly contested season opener, the Dallas Cowboys narrowly defeated the New York Giants with a final score of 22-17. Both teams entered the game looking to set the tone for the 2026 season, but it was the Cowboys who came away with the crucial victory on the road. The Giants' offense was led by Jaxson Dart, who threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his talent under pressure. Cam Skattebo contributed significantly on the ground with 97 rushing yards, while Malik Nabers was a favorite target, racking up 93 receiving yards. Despite the strong performance from this trio, it wasn't enough to secure the win. Defensively, the Giants were aggressive, highlighted by Dru Phillips' nine total tackles and Ar'Darius Washington's 1.5 sacks. However, it was Cobie Durant's interception for the Cowboys that proved to be a pivotal moment in the game, stifling a potential Giants drive and allowing Dallas to maintain their lead. The Cowboys' defense stepped up when it mattered most, securing the team's hard-fought victory as they look to build momentum moving forward.
