In a thrilling season opener, the Atlanta Falcons topped the Pittsburgh Steelers 70-42, showcasing a potent offense that left fans on the edge of their seats. Week 1 of the 2026 season set the tone for both teams, but the Falcons clearly established themselves as early contenders with this commanding victory. Leading the charge for Atlanta was quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who lit up the field with 355 passing yards and five touchdown passes. Running back Bijan Robinson also delivered an impressive performance, racking up 213 rushing yards and adding to the Falcons' offensive firepower. Despite the Steelers' efforts, Germie Bernard's 191 receiving yards were not enough to keep pace with Atlanta's relentless scoring. Defensively, the Falcons made crucial plays that changed the momentum of the game. Jessie Bates III's two interceptions were pivotal in stymying Steelers' drives and shifting the tide toward Atlanta. Although Alex Highsmith recorded three sacks for Pittsburgh, it was the Falcons’ ability to create turnovers and pressure the offense that ultimately sealed their decisive win.
