In a thrilling Week 3 showdown, the New England Patriots narrowly defeated the Indianapolis Colts with a final score of 38-35. This game held significant implications for both teams as they looked to establish their momentum early in the 2027 season. Matthew Stafford put on a dazzling performance for the Colts, throwing for 287 yards and four touchdowns, showcasing his ability to lead the offense effectively. However, it was Hollywood Smothers of the Patriots who stole the spotlight on the ground, racking up 104 rushing yards and providing a balanced attack that kept the Colts' defense guessing. CJ Carter also shined for Indianapolis, pulling in 147 receiving yards, but it wasn't enough to secure the victory. Defensively, the Patriots made crucial plays that shifted the momentum in their favor. Ashton Hampton led the team with five tackles, while Christian Barmore was a force, recording two sacks. Marcus Jones' two interceptions were pivotal, as they not only halted Colts' drives but also set up scoring opportunities for New England, ultimately proving to be the turning point in this nail-biter.
