In a decisive matchup to kick off the 2027 season, the Houston Texans topped the New York Jets 31-14. Both teams were looking to set the tone for the year, but the Texans delivered a powerful statement in their season opener. C.J. Stroud was the standout performer for Houston, throwing for 141 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his command of the offense. Ollie Gordon II contributed significantly on the ground, amassing 72 rushing yards to keep the Jets' defense on their heels. Despite the Jets' efforts, they struggled to contain Stroud's efficient passing and Gordon's strong runs. The Texans' defense played a crucial role in the victory, highlighted by Will Anderson Jr.'s 1.5 sacks and Jalen Pitre's interception, which halted a potential scoring drive for New York. The turning point came early in the second half when Pitre's interception led to a quick touchdown for Houston, allowing them to pull away and ultimately secure the win. The Jets were unable to recover from that momentum shift, sealing their fate in this Week 1 contest.
