The Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2026 season with a commanding 38-7 victory over the Denver Broncos, establishing their dominance in the division early on. With high expectations for both squads, the Chiefs made a statement that they are ready to contend for the title this year. Patrick Mahomes showcased his elite skills, throwing for 196 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Chiefs' potent offense. Meanwhile, Kenneth Walker delivered a standout performance on the ground, racking up 157 rushing yards, which kept the Denver defense on its heels throughout the game. Courtland Sutton was the lone bright spot for the Broncos, finishing with 79 receiving yards, but it wasn't nearly enough to keep pace with Kansas City's offensive firepower. Defensively, the Chiefs were relentless, highlighted by George Karlaftis' two sacks and Joey Blount's interception, which shifted the momentum firmly in Kansas City's favor. The turning point came late in the second quarter when Mahomes connected with a touchdown pass following a key turnover, effectively sealing the game before halftime. The Broncos struggled to respond, unable to mount a comeback against a Chiefs team that was firing on all cylinders.
