In a decisive Week 16 showdown, the Washington Commanders topped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a commanding 37-18 victory. With playoff implications on the line, Washington solidified its position in the postseason race, showcasing an impressive all-around performance. Leading the charge for the Commanders, Jayden Daniels threw for two touchdowns while also racking up 64 rushing yards, displaying his dual-threat capabilities. Stefon Diggs was a standout in the receiving game, amassing 119 yards that helped keep the Tampa defense on its heels. Baker Mayfield of the Buccaneers put forth a solid effort with 277 passing yards, but it wasn't enough to overcome Washington's offensive firepower. Defensively, the Commanders made their mark by forcing critical turnovers, highlighted by an interception from Trey Amos that shifted momentum. Although Daron Payne recorded a half-sack, it was the overall pressure that disrupted Tampa Bay's rhythm throughout the game. The turning point came in the second quarter when Washington scored back-to-back touchdowns, pushing their lead to a comfortable margin that the Buccaneers could never recover from.
