In a thrilling season opener, the Washington Commanders outlasted the Philadelphia Eagles with a final score of 43-35, setting the tone for a competitive 2026 season. Both teams demonstrated their offensive prowess, but the Commanders managed to stay one step ahead in this high-scoring affair. Leading the charge for Washington was quarterback Doug Williams, who threw for an impressive 444 yards and five touchdowns, showcasing his ability to stretch the field. Art Monk was his primary target, racking up 225 receiving yards and making several key catches that kept drives alive. For Philadelphia, Jonathan Taylor provided a strong ground game with 181 rushing yards, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. Defensively, the game turned when Rashan Gary of the Commanders dominated the Eagles’ offensive line, recording 3.5 sacks that disrupted Philadelphia's rhythm. While Jamel Dean made six tackles for the Eagles and Fred Warner snagged two interceptions, the Commanders' relentless pressure ultimately proved decisive, allowing them to hold off the Eagles’ comeback attempts in the final quarter.
