In a tightly contested season opener, the Washington Commanders narrowly defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 20-14. Both teams came into this Week 1 matchup looking to establish early momentum in the 2026 season, but it was the Commanders who emerged victorious on the road. Jayden Daniels was the standout performer for Washington, throwing for 214 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his ability to lead the offense effectively. Meanwhile, Jacory Croskey-Merritt made a significant impact on the ground, rushing for 101 yards, while Stefon Diggs contributed with 73 receiving yards, proving crucial in key moments of the game. Defensively, the Commanders put together a solid performance, limiting the Eagles' scoring opportunities. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Cooper DeJean intercepted a pass, giving Philadelphia a chance to equalize, but the Commanders held firm. Joshua Josephs added pressure with half a sack, helping to stifle any late-game push from the Eagles and secure the win.
