In a thrilling Week 7 matchup, the Atlanta Falcons narrowly defeated the San Francisco 49ers with a final score of 31-26, maintaining their grip on playoff contention in the 2026 season. The stakes were high as both teams sought to establish momentum heading into the second half of the season. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was the star of the show for the Falcons, throwing for four touchdowns and connecting with his receivers with precision. Brock Purdy of the 49ers also had a strong performance, racking up 309 passing yards, but it wasn’t enough to secure the victory. Bijan Robinson contributed significantly on the ground with 81 rushing yards, helping to balance Atlanta's offensive attack and keep the 49ers' defense on their heels. Defensively, the Falcons stepped up at crucial moments, with Jalon Walker recording 1.5 sacks and Xavier Watts snagging an interception that shifted the momentum late in the game. The turning point came in the fourth quarter when Watts' interception set up a touchdown drive, allowing the Falcons to take the lead for good. Fred Warner led the 49ers with 10 tackles, but San Francisco couldn't find the stops they needed in the final moments to claim victory.
