In a decisive Week 3 matchup, the Memphis Steamers secured a 31-17 victory over the Melbourne Blues, improving their record as they look to establish dominance early in the 2027 season. The win was crucial for the Steamers, who aimed to solidify their playoff aspirations in a competitive conference. Leading the charge for Memphis was quarterback Jalen Milroe, who showcased his arm strength and precision, throwing for 351 yards and four touchdowns. His ability to connect with receivers downfield was pivotal, while the ground game was less impactful, with Christian McCaffrey managing only 35 rushing yards. Despite the struggles on the ground, the Steamers' aerial attack proved overwhelming for the Blues’ defense. On the defensive side, the Steamers made key plays to stifle the Blues' momentum, notably with Tyrique Stevenson Sr's interception that shifted the game's momentum. While the Melbourne defense was led by Mack Wilson Sr's impressive 12 tackles, they struggled to contain Milroe's passing attack throughout the contest. The turning point came in the second quarter when Milroe threw two touchdown passes in quick succession, giving Memphis a lead they would not relinquish.
