In an exciting season opener, the Minnesota Vikings outlasted the Kansas City Chiefs with a final score of 22-15. Both teams were looking to establish momentum early in the 2027 season, but it was Minnesota that ultimately claimed victory on their home turf. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy was the standout performer for the Vikings, throwing for 292 yards and three touchdowns. His ability to connect with wide receiver Jordan Addison, who racked up 187 receiving yards, proved to be a potent combination that kept the Chiefs defense on their heels throughout the game. Kenneth Walker led the ground attack for Kansas City, accumulating 78 rushing yards but found it difficult to break through Minnesota's defense. Defensively, the Vikings made key plays that turned the tide in their favor. Jay Ward led the way with nine total tackles, ensuring the Chiefs struggled to find rhythm on offense. The game's turning point came when Andrew Van Ginkel recorded 1.5 sacks, applying crucial pressure on Kansas City's quarterback and forcing critical mistakes that sealed the win for Minnesota.
