In a commanding Week 1 performance, the Detroit Lions topped the New Orleans Saints with a final score of 35-14, marking a strong start to the 2026 season. The Lions showcased their offensive prowess, setting the tone for what they hope will be a successful campaign. Quarterback Jared Goff was the standout performer for Detroit, throwing for an impressive 325 yards and three touchdowns, effectively leading the charge against the Saints' defense. Meanwhile, Calvin Johnson made his presence felt with 118 receiving yards, consistently finding ways to exploit mismatches in coverage. Jahmyr Gibbs added a solid rushing contribution, finishing with 46 yards on the ground. Defensively, the Lions were able to disrupt the Saints' rhythm, with Brian Branch leading the team with four total tackles. While Justin Reid of the Saints snagged an interception, it was Detroit's ability to limit big plays from New Orleans that proved pivotal. The turning point came early in the second half when Goff connected with Johnson for a touchdown that extended the Lions' lead to 21-7, putting the game firmly in their control.
