In a thrilling season opener, the Washington Commanders narrowly defeated the Orlando SJ Jackals 20-17, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense 2026 campaign. Both teams showcased their strengths, but it was Washington that emerged victorious, overcoming a strong performance from their opponents. Baker Mayfield led the Commanders with a modest 74 passing yards, while Jonathan Taylor of the Jackals stole the spotlight on the ground, racking up an impressive 173 rushing yards. DK Metcalf contributed significantly in the air for Washington, finishing with 34 receiving yards, but it was the overall balanced attack that helped the Commanders secure the win. Defensively, Bobby Okereke stood out for Orlando with a game-high eight tackles, consistently stifling Washington's drives. However, the turning point came late in the game when Washington’s defense tightened up, forcing critical turnovers that allowed them to hold off Orlando's late-game surge. Ultimately, it was a gritty performance from both squads, but Washington's resilience proved decisive in this tightly contested matchup.
