In an explosive season opener, the New Orleans Saints took down the Detroit Lions with a final score of 48-31, showcasing their offensive firepower. With Week 1 of the 2026 season set to make a statement, the Saints proved they are ready to contend for the playoffs. Tyler Shough was the star of the night for New Orleans, throwing for an impressive five touchdown passes while leading the team through the air. Alvin Kamara was a force on the ground as well, racking up 164 rushing yards that helped control the tempo of the game. Meanwhile, Lions quarterback Jared Goff threw for 332 yards, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with the Saints' high-octane offense. While the Saints' offense stole the show, their defense also made crucial plays to seal the victory. Julian Blackmon led the team with six total tackles, contributing to a solid overall defensive effort. The turning point came when the Saints' defense held the Lions scoreless for a critical stretch in the second half, allowing New Orleans to extend their lead and ultimately secure the win.
