In a tightly contested opener for the 2026 season, the Philadelphia Eagles narrowly defeated the Washington Commanders with a final score of 24-22. Both teams were hungry for a strong start, but it was the Eagles who managed to hold off a late surge from Washington, securing an important win to kick off the year. Jalen Hurts was the standout performer for Philadelphia, throwing for 203 yards and three touchdown passes, showcasing his dynamism in the pocket. Saquon Barkley added a solid ground game with 83 rushing yards, while Dallas Goedert proved to be a reliable target, racking up 77 receiving yards. The Eagles' offense displayed efficiency and versatility, contributing to their narrow victory. Defensively, the Eagles were led by Zack Baun, who recorded seven total tackles, playing a crucial role in stifling the Commanders' offensive efforts. The game's turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Philadelphia's defense held firm, forcing a key turnover on downs that allowed them to preserve their slim lead. Despite a valiant effort from Washington, particularly with Frankie Luvu's sack, it was not enough to overcome the Eagles' timely defensive stands.
